Visiting the NGO “Choti Si Khushi” in Dwarka

Education is both the means as well as the end to a better life

The students of Queen’s Valley School recently visited the children of “Choti Si Khushi” NGO in order to donate various things like books, pencils, water bottles and other useful school items to the underprivileged children. Choti si Khushi is a community-based, volunteer-driven, registered organization that offers after-school activities and engagements for women and children belonging to urban slums. Students from pre-school to class 12 were involved in the activity, and went and interacted with the children of the NGO, and discussed with them various things like their hobbies, daily routines, school studies, and so on.

The students then distributed to the children the various items they had brought along with them. Each child received things like water bottles, art material, craft kits and books on various subjects. The books were distributed according to the grade each child was in. The children were truly delighted with the items they received, and many immediately began reading the books they had got.

he junior students of QVS and the NGO then came forward and put forth a delightful presentation of poems. The visit ended with both the sets of students promising to continue to visit and help each other in future as well. The children of the NGO then thanked the students of QVS for all the useful things they had given them. The event thus instilled feelings of generosity and empathy in the students, and was an eye-opening experience for all of them.

Go green, plastic is obscene!

The students of Queen’s Valley School initiated a move in order to minimize the use of plastic in the school as much as possible. The students from classes III-XII on each floor collected the plastic cups used for drinking water from the water points and crushed them, after which the rest of the glasses were sent for recycling. The students also put up posters on the walls creating awareness about minimizing the use of plastic. The students substituted the plastic cups with steel glasses for drinking water as an example. They promised to be responsible children of Mother Earth and use its resources judiciously.

20.08.2019: SPECIAL ASSEMBLY : NUKKAD NAATAK (पुनःवृक्षारोपण) –(XII-A)

At Queen’s Valley School, it is believed that the overarching goal of education in a student’s life is far beyond the limits of textbook and theoretical knowledge. As part of the same goal to infuse the minds of pupils with the practical dimension of the learning process, the Special Assembly of Class XII A was organised in the form of a street play, thematically based on the urgent need to recreate the environmental balance through planting trees. To stimulate the young minds, an interactive session on the need to create awareness regarding the same was held. The participants were encouraged to create a well-structured research plan on executing the theme through thematic formations and dialogues. They learnt from each other through discussions and observation of each other’s performances. Moreover, they were trained to understand and execute the dialogues effectively in order to develop a poised and controlled posture in front of the audience.

The participants offered the audience a slice of their own lives by personifying ordinary people and the varied forms of human selfishness which lead to degradation of the environment. They also added self-improvisations to present the issue as riddled with complexities of dogma and orthodoxy. The audience was elated as a few participants presented the characters with a touch of humour and sarcasm. Such events help students to develop their literary and theatrical skills by understanding the processes and elements involved in creating works of dramatic art. At the same time, they develop self-motivation, self-discipline and self-awareness in students. Photography by: Versha Jakhar Videography by: Khushi Gupta

21.08.2019:SPECIAL ASSEMBLY: NUKKAD NAATAK- PLASTIC REDUCE(XII-D)

“Do something drastic, cut the plastic.”

Street theatre or NukkadNatak is a form of theatrical performance and presentation in outdoor public spaces without a specific paying audience. Street play or Nukkad Naatak was always meant to have a role in social awakening and reformation. It is also important because such plays go beyond dialogues. With a view to raise awareness about the plastic pollution, a Nukkad Naatak was staged by the students on class XII-D on 21st August 2019. Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g.: plastic bottles and much more) in the Earth’s environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, and humans. Burning of plastic in the open air, leads to environmental pollution due to the release of poisonous chemicals. The polluted air when inhaled by humans and animals affect their health and can cause respiratory problems. The students staged different scenes which aimed at greater understanding of the different types of plastics, which can and cannot be recycled. They were able to understand personally the important role of reducing plastic pollution and increasing recycling rates for a healthier environment. Beats of instruments like dholki, dhapli, and jingles complemented the colourful attire and unwavering opinions and voices, to spread the message of “No Plastic”. The naatak put forward many questions, some answers and most importantly a message that was delivered loud and clear. Curious onlookers spontaneously gathered around and soon the numbers swelled enough to make a substantial crowd! The audience also gained a lot from the touching and symbolic issue taken by the students. They applauded all the participants and were impressed by the innovative and sensitive presentation of the youth.
